Blog2Social: Features, pricing and a free alternative

Updated · 6 min read

PressQueue is a free WordPress plugin that shares your posts through Buffer. See how it works

WordPress site owners use social media scheduling tools to share new posts across networks without posting each update by hand. Blog2Social is a WordPress plugin and browser-based service for that job. Its free WordPress plan covers one account per network, while paid plugin plans add more accounts, users, websites, and features.

PressQueue is another free option, aimed at sharing WordPress posts through Buffer. It suits publishers who want rules for choosing posts, which social accounts receive them, what each message says, and when to share. The right choice depends on how many social accounts you manage and how much control you need over each share.

What Blog2Social does

Blog2Social connects a WordPress site to social media networks so users can share content from the site. Its WordPress plugin offers automatic sharing, a content calendar, and scheduling features. The company also offers a browser-based WebApp, which has separate plans and limits from the WordPress plugin.

The free plugin plan lists 12 networks and allows one social account on each network, one user, and one website. A social media account is a specific profile or page on a network, such as a company page on LinkedIn. Paid plugin plans raise those limits and add features. Smart includes autoposting, a content calendar, and the Best Time Manager. Pro adds share image collection and Google Business Profile. Business adds team management and Telegram.

Blog2Social lists different network counts on different pages. Its pricing page lists 12 networks for Free and 16 for Smart. Pro lists 24, while Business lists 25. The WordPress.org listing gives a different count for the free version. Check the current plan details and supported networks before choosing a tier, especially if you need a particular platform.

Blog2Social pricing and limits

Blog2Social's four WordPress plugin tiers are Free, Smart, Pro, and Business, and the free license is included when you install the plugin from within WordPress. The pricing page also lists separate WebApp plans, so confirm you are comparing the WordPress plugin plans if you publish from WordPress.

WordPress plugin plan Networks listed Accounts per network Users and websites Notable features
Free 12 1 1 user, 1 website Basic sharing
Smart 16 3 2 users, 2 websites Autoposting, content calendar, Best Time Manager
Pro 24 5 5 users, 5 websites Adds share image collection and Google Business Profile
Business 25 15 10 users, 10 websites Adds team management and Telegram

The plan details shown here do not give current monthly prices for the WordPress tiers. Check the current pricing page before budgeting, because plan pricing and included features can change. Add-ons also affect the total. Blog2Social lists separate options for video posting and X. Its list also includes Telegram and HumHub.

Daily posting limits increase by tier. The Blog2Social posting-limit FAQ sets Free’s daily limit at 50 posts and Smart’s at 100. Pro allows 250 posts per day, while Business allows 500. During the free 30-day Premium trial, the separate limits are 50 posts per day and 500 posts overall. Blog2Social says the trial needs no payment details, and the account switches to the free version when the trial ends, without requiring cancellation, according to its trial FAQ.

These limits matter if you share often or add older posts to queues that send them automatically. The same FAQ also limits how many previously published posts you can add to automatic-sharing queues and how many posts you can import from sources such as RSS feeds. Check those limits against your posting volume before relying on a paid tier.

When Blog2Social is a good fit

Blog2Social suits you if you want a social sharing tool centered on WordPress and need more than one account per network, several users, or multiple websites. Its free plan offers a way to start with one account per network; Smart, Pro, and Business add capacity and features as publishing needs grow.

The 30-day Premium trial provides a way to test paid features before choosing a plan. Keep the trial’s post limit in mind, and compare the plan’s network list with the actual profiles you use. If your main requirement is a modest number of WordPress shares, a free plan or a smaller alternative may be enough.

PressQueue: a free alternative for WordPress posts

PressQueue is a free, open source WordPress plugin that shares your posts to social media through your Buffer account. Buffer has a free plan.

Through Buffer, PressQueue supports LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads and Facebook. It does not support Instagram or Pinterest. You need a WordPress site that allows plugin uploads, with WordPress 6.8 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer. You also need a Buffer account with your social accounts added.

PressQueue focuses on rules for deciding what gets shared. A rule can run when a post is published, when its content changes, or when you select it for sharing as an older post. You can filter by post type, category, tag, author, custom field, or taxonomy. A taxonomy is a way WordPress groups content, such as categories or tags. With one click, you can create a rule that shares every new post to all the social accounts connected to your Buffer account. New rules start switched off, so you can test them against recent posts before enabling them.

For each rule, you can set the message, image, channel, and timing. Messages support placeholders such as {{ title }} and {{ excerpt }}, and PressQueue adds the post link automatically. You can give different networks different messages, preview each message with its character count, and start from a saved template. You can add posts to the end of Buffer’s queue or put them at the top of the queue, ahead of posts already waiting. You can also post them to the network right away, create a Buffer draft for review, or choose a date and time for a single post.

PressQueue starts in test mode, where it records what it would share but sends nothing. You can switch to Live or Paused when ready. “Never share” rules exclude a category, tag, or author from social media and take priority over sharing rules. The WordPress editor also has a sharing switch and settings for each post. PressQueue prevents duplicate posts from repeated WordPress events and does not automatically retry a share when Buffer’s reply is unclear.

PressQueue can also create a social image: a wide graphic with the post title and site name, sized for the format commonly used in link previews. Choose the image style once in Settings under Social images. The image is created when a post first needs it, updated if the title or style changes, and kept out of the WordPress Media Library. This feature needs PHP GD with FreeType. If the hosting account lacks it, PressQueue sends the post with text and a link.

The social image can also serve as the post’s og:image and twitter:image, which are page details social networks use when displaying a shared link. PressQueue works with Yoast SEO, Rank Math, The SEO Framework, and Jetpack. If one of those plugins already sets an image for a post, that image takes precedence. You can enable PressQueue’s link-preview images for every post, only posts without their own image, or no posts.

To install PressQueue, download pressqueue.zip from the PressQueue download page, then go to Plugins > Add Plugin > Upload Plugin in WordPress. To connect it, paste a personal API key from Buffer settings; there is no Buffer login button. PressQueue stores the key encrypted, and newly detected Buffer channels start switched off. See the PressQueue documentation for setup details.

Choose PressQueue if you want to share WordPress posts through Buffer and value rules for post selection, per-network messages, and posting times. Choose Blog2Social if you need its broader network offering, multiple accounts per network, or features such as its content calendar and Best Time Manager. PressQueue’s website and open-source code provide more information.
