Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Buffer, networks, cost, old posts and what PressQueue does not do.

Buffer and networks

Do I need a Buffer account?

Yes. PressQueue posts through Buffer and has no connection of its own to the networks. Free Buffer plans work.

Which networks can PressQueue post to?

LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads and Facebook, each with text, a link and one image. Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business are not supported, and neither are video posts.

Why do I paste an API key instead of logging in with Buffer?

Buffer's login flow needs each website's address registered with Buffer in advance. That does not work for a plugin anyone can install on their own site. The key is stored encrypted on your server and only sent to Buffer.

Can I connect more than one Buffer account?

Yes. Use "Add another Buffer account" on the Channels page.

Can PressQueue post somewhere else than Buffer?

No. The code has a provider interface, so a developer can add another service as a separate plugin. See Providers.

Sharing

Will my old posts suddenly get shared?

No. Rules share a post when you publish it. Posts dated more than a day in the past are skipped. To share older posts, use Share old posts, where you review the list before anything happens.

Does PressQueue share a post again when I edit it?

Only when a rule has "A published post is updated" ticked, and only after the content changes. Saving without changes does not count.

Do scheduled posts work?

Yes. "A post is published" includes scheduled posts when they go live.

What is the difference between test mode and a Buffer draft?

Test mode stays inside WordPress and sends nothing to Buffer. A rule with "Save as a Buffer draft" sends the share to Buffer as a draft, which you review and schedule there.

How do I keep one post off social media?

Switch off "Share this post" in the post's "Social sharing" panel. For a whole category, tag or author, make a "never share" rule.

How do I stop everything?

Choose "Paused" under Settings, "Sharing mode". Waiting shares are held until you resume. Cancelling a share in PressQueue does not delete a post Buffer already published.

Can writers who are not administrators use PressQueue?

Administrators can use everything. Editors and authors see the "Social sharing" panel when their role has PressQueue's post sharing permission. See Permissions.

Data and cost

What does PressQueue cost?

Nothing. It is free and open source. The plugin code is MIT licensed. The ZIP is distributed under GPL-3.0-or-later because it bundles Action Scheduler. Buffer has its own plans.

Does PressQueue track anything or show likes and clicks?

No. It has no hosted service, no account and no tracking. It talks to Buffer from your own server. It does not read likes, clicks or other numbers from the networks.

Does PressQueue write messages with AI?

No. You write the message in the rule, with placeholders like the title or the excerpt.

What happens when I uninstall?

Deactivating keeps your data. Deleting the plugin keeps it too, unless you switch on "Delete all PressQueue data when the plugin is deleted" under Settings, Data and privacy first. See Privacy and data.
