If you post on several social networks, copying the same announcement to each account by hand means repeating the work and checking each post. A publishing tool lets you write a post once, select connected accounts, then publish or schedule a version for each. This is called cross-posting.
For WordPress publishers, PressQueue sends posts through Buffer, a service that connects social accounts and publishes posts. You can change the message and timing for each network instead of sending the same post everywhere. “All” depends on which networks the tool supports and which accounts you connect.
What posting to multiple accounts involves
A connected social account is an account where the tool can publish, such as a Facebook Page or LinkedIn profile. You choose which accounts to use when you set up a rule or prepare a post. A queue is a list of posts waiting to publish at their scheduled times.
Each social network has its own formats and limits, so one caption may not work for every account. You can keep the same main message and use different wording or images on each network. Scheduling posts through one tool does not guarantee that they will appear at exactly the same time.
Set up PressQueue on WordPress
To use PressQueue, you need a WordPress site where you can upload plugins, WordPress 6.8 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer, and a Buffer account with your social accounts added. Buffer offers a free plan.
- Download pressqueue.zip from the PressQueue download page. In WordPress, open Plugins > Add Plugin > Upload Plugin, upload the ZIP, and install it.
- Under PressQueue > Channels, paste a personal API key from your Buffer settings. An API key is a credential that lets PressQueue send publishing requests to Buffer. PressQueue stores the key encrypted; there is no Buffer login button.
- Choose which Buffer channels to enable. New channels start switched off. Then create a sharing rule. One click creates the rule “Share every new post to all my channels,” or you can specify the post types, categories, tags, authors, or other criteria it should cover.
PressQueue is a free WordPress plugin for Buffer, and its code is open source.
Test a rule before sharing automatically
PressQueue starts in Test mode. It records what it would share but does not send anything. New rules also start switched off. Test a rule on recent posts, review the results, and switch it on when the posts and accounts look right.
A rule can apply when you publish a post, when a scheduled WordPress post goes live, or when you update a post and change its content. PressQueue does not automatically share backdated posts. Use Share old posts to share posts that are already published.
For additional control, PressQueue offers Live and Paused modes, a per-post sharing switch, and “Never share” rules for categories, tags, or authors. A “Never share” rule takes priority over sharing rules.
Customize messages, images, and timing
PressQueue adds the post link to each message for you. You can use placeholders such as {{ title }} or {{ excerpt }}, create different messages for different networks, and check a live preview with a character count. Saved templates give you a starting point.
Choose whether a post goes to the end of the Buffer queue, moves to the top of the queue ahead of posts already waiting, publishes right away, becomes a Buffer draft for review, or goes out at a date and time you select. Check the schedule for each destination if you want a coordinated announcement.
For each post, choose an image option. You can use no image, the featured image, an image selected in the post, or a social image. PressQueue can create a wide image for sharing that includes the post title and site name. Set the image style under Settings > Social images. PressQueue creates the image when it is first needed and updates it if the title or style changes. It does not save the image in the WordPress Media Library. Creating the image requires PHP GD with FreeType. Without that support, posts go out with text and a link.
The social image can also appear as the link preview, the picture shown when someone shares a link. PressQueue supports Yoast SEO, Rank Math, The SEO Framework, and Jetpack. If an SEO plugin sets an image for an individual post, PressQueue uses that image first. You can enable the social image for every post, only for posts without their own image, or for no posts.
Check which networks you need
Through Buffer, PressQueue supports LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads and Facebook. It does not support Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, or YouTube.
PressQueue gives you Share now to send a published post that has never been shared, after showing what each channel will receive. It also lets you reshare older posts in batches. You can spread them across the Buffer queue, send them one at a time, or save them as Buffer drafts. For more setup details, see the PressQueue documentation.
