PressQueue is waiting for review in the WordPress.org plugin directory. Until it is listed, you install it from a ZIP file.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.8 or newer. PressQueue is tested up to WordPress 7.1.
- PHP 8.1 or newer with the Sodium extension. PressQueue uses Sodium to encrypt your Buffer key. Sodium has been part of PHP since 7.2.
- Unique security keys and salts in wp-config.php. WordPress sets them when you install it. PressQueue needs them to encrypt the key.
- Outgoing HTTPS connections from your server to api.buffer.com.
- A Buffer account with your social accounts added as channels.
- For social images: the PHP GD extension with FreeType. Without it, posts are shared with text and link.
Download and upload
- Download pressqueue.zip from the download page. It is the file attached to the latest release on GitHub. GitHub's "Source code" ZIP is not the plugin.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins, Add Plugin, Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate.
The ZIP contains PressQueue and Action Scheduler, the library that runs the background sending. PressQueue's own code is MIT licensed. Because the ZIP bundles Action Scheduler, which is GPL-3.0-or-later, the ZIP as a whole is distributed under GPL-3.0-or-later.
After activation
A PressQueue menu appears in the admin with Overview, Activity, Rules, Channels, Share old posts and Settings. The Overview shows a checklist: Connect Buffer, Choose channels, Create a sharing rule and Go live. Getting started walks through those steps.
PressQueue starts in test mode. Nothing is sent to Buffer until you go live.
Updating
Download the ZIP of the new release and upload it the same way. WordPress notices that the plugin is already installed and offers to replace it with the uploaded version. Your rules, channels, settings and history stay.
Deactivating and deleting
Deactivating stops PressQueue from picking up new posts and from running background work. Your data stays. Deleting the plugin keeps the data too, unless you switch on "Delete all PressQueue data when the plugin is deleted" under Settings, Data and privacy first. See Privacy and data.
Installing from a Git checkout
The repository does not include Action Scheduler. If you run PressQueue from a Git checkout, run composer install --no-dev in the plugin folder before you activate it.
