Each share goes to Buffer with text, a link and one image, or with text and link only. The "Image" setting of a rule decides which image that is. A single post can pick something else.
Image options in a rule
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| "Featured image when there is one" | Posts without a featured image are shared as text. |
| "Only share posts that have a featured image" | A post without a usable featured image is held back. |
| "Social image with the post title" | PressQueue draws the image in the style you pick under Settings, Social images. See Social images. |
| "Image chosen in each post" | Writers pick the image in the post editor under "Customize for this post". |
| "No image" | Nothing is attached. The social network may still show a link preview. |
The quick start rule uses "Featured image when there is one".
Images for one post
In the editor, open "Customize for this post" and set "Image" to "Use the rule", "No image", "Social image with the title", "Featured image", "Featured image, hold the post back without one" or "Choose an image". "Choose an image" opens the media library. See Sharing settings for one post.
What an image must be
- A JPEG, PNG or GIF file.
- Up to 5 MB, and up to 4096 pixels wide and high.
- Reachable at a public HTTPS address. Buffer fetches the image by that address when the post goes out.
Before a share is sent, PressQueue checks the file. For that it may contact the image's host to read the file type, size and dimensions.
When the image cannot be used
- With "Featured image when there is one", the post is shared as text and link.
- With "Only share posts that have a featured image", the post is held back.
- With a social image that cannot be drawn, for example because the server has no GD extension, the post is shared with text and link.
- With "Image chosen in each post", the editor refuses to save an image that cannot be used. If an image stops working later, the post is stopped and shows up in Activity under "Why posts were shared or skipped" as "Blocked by an error".
